Arizona music legend Hans
Olson comes to Old Town on November 28, 2009
COTTONWOOD, AZ (November 20, 2009) -
Come to Old Town this weekend for an evening
of Blues, Country and Folk music from
Arizona music legend Hans Olson. Old Town
Center for the Arts will host this special
concert on Thanksgiving weekend, Saturday,
November 28th at 7:30 PM.
“I remember when we began to renovate this
historic building, and began thinking of
world class musicians like Hans who might
play here,” noted William Eaton, co-Director
at OTCA. “The warm acoustic atmosphere and
vintage decor compliments the soulful
artistry of a talent like Hans. He’s a
presence, and an uncompromising artist.
You’ll feel the depth of his emotion and
clarity on his first note. His guitar and
harmonica playing is fluid and flawless, but
his voice is what will arrest you. Only a
few gifted people have got it. Hans has got
it.”
Hans Olson has already been inducted into
the Arizona Blues Hall of Fame, and many
people think of Hans only as a blues player,
but his original music, and delivery of
standards goes beyond the blues. Noted
writer for the San Francisco Chronicle, Joel
Selvin took this sentence to explore Hans
range and diversity:
"Olson managed a delicate blend of the grim
boogie blues of John Lee Hooker, the wistful
introspection of Bob Seger and the raw
urgency of early Bob Dylan."

These unique musical characteristics can be
found in Hans' prolific songwriting. He has
recorded over 70 of his songs on his 13
independent record releases. His music has
also been released on Virgin Records in
Europe and on independent label Fervor
Records in the USA. Hans Olson songs have
appeared on numerous TV shows and film
soundtracks, including: Evening Shade, Cold
Case, The George Lopez Show, Ghost
Whisperer, and Criminal Minds.
Olson usually performs solo although he has
played with several bands throughout his
career. He plays an amplified acoustic
guitar and harmonica in a neck rack, and is
considered by many to be one of the best
"harp in a rack" harmonica players in the
world.
A veteran performing musician with over 40
years in the music business, Hans began his
career as a lead singer in a rock and roll
band in Southern California in 1967, and by
1970 he had developed a very unique and
powerful solo act.
Although Hans' singing is very powerful, his
voice is comfortable singing many styles of
music ranging from mellow folk ballads to
growling boogie blues. His influences have
included: Muddy Waters, Johnny Cash, Woody
Guthrie, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Burdon, Van
Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, Bob Dylan, The
Rolling Stones, John Lee Hooker, John
Hammond and Tom Waits.
Hans has been a full time performing
musician since 1972. He tours all over the
world, but most of the time he travels the
highways in Arizona where he has an amazing
reputation of being a solo act. Hans has
played with over 100 musicians in his bands
and has opened for Muddy Waters, B.B. King,
Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, Stevie Ray
Vaughan and others.
