An evening of exquizite muzic with Fitz,
Zang & Z at Old Town Center for the Arts
on Dec 6, 2009
COTTONWOOD, AZ (November 26, 2009) - On Sunday, December 6th at 7:00
PM you are invited to an ‘exquizite’ evening
of ‘muzic’ with Fitz, Zang & Z, at the Old
Town Center for the Arts. Inspired from his
travels halfway around the world master
musician Fitzhugh Jenkins brings yet another
world ensemble to Cottonwood. While in
India the past few weeks, Fitz performed in
Mumbai and Delhi and also recorded with a
Sufi singer from Pakistan who was an
understudy of the great singer Nusrat Ali
Khan. For this special concert Fitz will
provide a sneak preview of the recording,
and will also show slides from his travels
in India as a visual to the trio’s
soundscape instrumentation.
Fitzhugh has teamed up with Eric Zang and
Vincent Z. on separate occasions, but this
will be a first time collaboration for this
trio configuration. Eric plays a diverse
array of world percussion instruments and
the Middle Eastern Oud, while Vincent Z. and
Fitzhugh contribute melody and chordal
harmonies on guitars.
Vincent Z who recently returned from France,
his homeland, also sings, in his native
language and many other languages from
around the world. For pure musicianship and
refined composition you’ll want to check out
this group, to hear why Fitz and his last
ensemble received two standing ovations at
OTCA.
The diversity of this trio comes from their
experience and background in listening and
playing many styles of music. Fitzhugh
Jenkins toured for 10 years with the Shah of
Iran's private Court of musicians, singers,
and belly dancers. He studied guitar at
Berklee College of Music in Boston and in
Paris with Pierre Bensusan. He has
performed in Central America, Europe, and
India, and has opened in concert for Alex
DeGrassi, Tuck and Patti and others.
Fitzhugh's first notable gig was as a tender
youth backing up Don Ho in Waikiki. He
performed on the Grammy nominated
CD,"Passion - Music for Guitar" on the
Narada label.
The music of Fitzhugh Jenkins was recently
licensed for use on three episodes of the
Discovery Channel. The series, which aired a
couple of months ago, was called "Heliloggers"
and the subject was the more eco friendly
use of logging in the Pacific Northwest with
helicopters instead of trucks.
Vincent Z has a distinguished career
performing throughout France, Spain and
North Africa. He is known as a
well-traveled French “saltimbanque” (France,
Italy, Greece, Spain, Morocco, Canada,
Mexico, The United States and Venezuela),
singing and playing traditional melodies and
rhythms from around the world. Accomplished
in many styles, including: Samba, Beguine,
Rumba, Gypsy Swing, and Soukous, Vincent Z
performs solo as well as with the Jazz
Bedouins, Zigaboom, and Zumpa! He sings
songs in English, French, French Creole
Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Hebrew and
Russian. His performance style is both
entertaining and educational, and provides a
cultural experience for all ages.
Eric Zang is a multi-instrumentalist, with
an emphasis in percussion. An explorer of
traditional music around the world, much of
his experience has been within flamenco and
middle eastern music, along with a
foundation in West African and Latin
American forms. He can be found performing
with a variety of musicians from styles such
as flamenco, Greek, world and jazz fusion.
Eric Zang has performed in Turkey and other
far away places and is simply one of the
finest musicians in Arizona.
Fitz, Zang and Z promises to be a night of
exquizite muzic to remember. Mark your
calendar and join us Sunday, December 6th
at 7 PM at Old Town Center for The Arts,
